Volunteer Ongoing Training-The Difference One Adult Can Make

This training is designed to support volunteer in understanding the underlying causes of challenging behaviors in teens in foster care, and responding with empathy, structure, and trauma-informed strategies.

This class supports volunteers in strengthening their relationships with teens by exploring healthy boundaries and common teen behaviors. Together, we’ll look at how typical adolescent development and past experiences can shape how teens communicate, react, and engage with adults. The session offers practical guidance to help volunteers respond with clarity, empathy, and consistency—while staying within their role. This training is meant to affirm the important work volunteers already do and provide additional tools to navigate challenging moments with greater confidence.

Many teens may not remember every activity or conversation, but they often remember how adults made them feel. This closing session explores the lasting impact volunteers can have through consistency, trust, encouragement, and authentic relationships.
